All of the elements that are needed to make a spectacular summer at Harbor Haven were in place for the 2011 season--our 15th fabulous summer of providing comprehensive programming for children ages 3-15 with mild special needs! We had a stupendous staff, wonderful weather, fabulous facilities, popular programming and of course, the most unbelievably awesome children--the most important ingredient! They truly made the sun shine each and every day. We thank the parents who gave their children this incredible summer gift.
We have now begun the joyous task of preparing for the 2012 season. Every year we add to and change our program to keep Harbor Haven a dynamic and ever-improving and evolving place so that we can provide a stellar experience for children. The summer of 2012 will be no exception. We look forward to keeping you informed throughout the year about our new ideas that will be put into effect for our 16th summer.
Throughout the summer, and after, parents of our children give us lots of feedback. Their words express better than we can, the benefit of a “Harbor Haven” summer.
“I wanted to express how proud I am to be able to send my son to your camp. This was his 6th year and he absolutely loved it! I can see such growth in him on every level in just 3 weeks. Everyone who was with him this summer--- counselors, staff and fellow campers, made such an awesome impact on him. We look forward to the summer of 2012.”
“For the third terrific year we thank you so much for your work with our special child. You understand him, respect him and appreciate and value him, something he does not feel enough of in his life---he feels it at Harbor Haven. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
“Your program is absolutely great. We are so happy you have entered into our lives and our son’s life. He is so happy to be there---all the time. Thank you!
“I find it difficult to put into words my gratitude to you for taking such good care of my son. The beginning of the summer felt very chaotic to him (when he was not there) but within a couple of days of him starting Harbor Haven we saw a complete turnaround in his behavior. I felt like I had my son back and I cannot thank you enough for that. This is truly a wonderful program and your staff does an excellent job. I wish you were open year round!”
Our state-renowned and certified program is also accredited by the American Camp association. The ACA is the national body which endorses programs that comply with the very strictest of codes and regulations and have passed their rigorous inspection. In addition, we meet and surpass the standard of the state and local health departments which make us a safe and healthy environment for your children.
Some of the elements that make up a quality program are staffing, activities and facility. We are fortunate to attract many experienced and caring professionals who return summer after summer. In addition, our college and graduate level students come from numerous institutions within and outside of New Jersey. They are carefully selected and most are pursuing careers in special education or a therapeutic area.
Our facility combines the best of the outdoor world with the comfort of a modern, bright, and air-conditioned inside setting. The 8-acre private school site is perfectly compatible with the needs of our children and provides great indoor space for rainy days.
The Harbor Haven program is comprised of many diverse activities covering a broad array of skill sets for the children to master. Two unique features of Harbor Haven are the daily academic period and the social skills training your child will receive. Keep in mind also, that we have group sensory-motor and speech for children ages 3-9 and individual speech and occupational therapy available for all ages.
In addition to our core program, we hold special event days, trips, and special workshops and we bring in lots of outside entertainment. Hardly a day goes by when one division or another doesn’t have a unique activity going on.
Harbor Haven is especially known for our ages 3-5 programming. “Bright Beginnings,” our 3-5 year old division, is uniquely constructed to provide mildly delayed young children with a comprehensive approach that addresses all of their issues. Parents and professionals know that the earlier we work on a child’s needs, the more likely he/she will “catch up” with typical peers.
